Cyclobenzaprine is a muscle relaxant and is used together with physical therapy on a short term (3 weeks or less) basis to relieve muscle spasms, characterized by sudden and involuntary contraction of muscles. It helps in providing relief from the pain and discomfort caused due to sprain, strain or injury to the muscles. The medication acts on your central nervous system (CNS) to produce muscle relaxation effect. Cyclobenzaprine should not be given to the children below 15 years of age and elderly patients as they are at greater risk of experiencing severe side effects without doctor’s advice.

Cyclobenzaprine is available in tablet strengths of 5 mg, and 10 mg The usual starting dosage is 5 mg orally every 8 hours for muscle spasm and 5 mg a day for patients with kidney dysfunction.
